Forced illegal mobilization of young people continues in the temporarily occupied territory of Donetsk region

More than 100 students of Donetsk Medical University was forcibly sent by the invaders to fight against the Ukrainian people.

Rector of the University Hryhoriy Ignatenko, on the instructions of the occupiers, gathered the students for a "mandatory meeting", from where they were taken by representatives of the occupation administration of the region.  For such "ingenuity and devotional service" the rector received an award from the occupiers.

The rector told the students' parents that after demobilization, students will continue their studies on an individual schedule in an accelerated mode.

A total of 176 medical students were drafted into the army.

Forced mobilization in the occupied territories is a violation of Article 51 of the Geneva Convention relative to the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War.  It strictly prohibits the occupying State from forcing persons under protection, ie those under the control of a party to the conflict or an occupying State of which they are not nationals, to serve in its armed or auxiliary forces.

I appeal to the UN Commission for Investigation Human Rights Violations during Russia's military invasion of Ukraine to take into account these facts of war crimes and human rights violations in Ukraine.
