Commissioner: the number of dead and wounded Ukrainian children due to the military aggression of the Russian Federation is growing

As of 10 a.m. on May 3, 2022, according to the Unified Register of Pre-Trial Investigations and other sources that need to be confirmed, 220 children (+1 per day) have died and 406 children (+1 per day) have been injured since the Russian invasion of Ukraine began.

It is impossible to establish the actual number of dead and wounded children due to the fact that the occupying forces are actively fighting in Ukrainian cities.

Yesterday, a 14-year-old boy was killed and a 17-year-old girl was injured in a rocket attack by the russian army in the city of Odesa.

Russia continues to destroy and destroy educational institutions.  To date, 1,584 educational institutions have been damaged by daily bombings, 118 of which have been completely destroyed.

A gymnasium built 100 years ago by the Belgians burned down in the Luhansk region of Lysychansk due to shelling by the occupiers.  The school was built at the end of the XIX century, the gymnasium is part of the ensemble of Belgian architectural heritage Lysychansk.

The actions of the russian occupation are a direct violation of Ukraine's children's right to life and security, guaranteed by the Hague and Geneva Conventions and the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.

I appeal to the UN Commission for Investigation Human Rights Violations during Russia's military invasion of Ukraine to take into account these facts of Russia's violations of children's rights in Ukraine.

I call on international partners to provide weapons to fight the aggressor country of Russia!
