Commissioner: Every day Ukrainian children suffer from Russian aggression

As of 10 a.m. on May 5, 2022, 221 children (+1 per day) have been killed and 408 children (+1 per day) injured since the Russian Federation invaded Ukraine, according to the Unified Register of Pre-Trial Investigations and other sources that need confirmation.

It is impossible to establish the actual number of dead and wounded children due to the fact that the occupying forces are actively fighting in Ukrainian cities.

As a result of shelling by the russian occupiers of the village of Big Corner in the Nikolaev area the 9-year-old girl was wounded.

During the recording of criminal offenses committed by the russian army in the Kyiv region in the village of Shibyne, the body of a 10-year-old girl was found, who died of shrapnel wounds due to an enemy projectile entering the house.

An 11-year-old child from Loziv district of Kharkiv region was injured as a result of racist shelling.

The enemy systematically continues to destroy Ukraine's civilian infrastructure.  A missile strike by russians in the city of Kramatorsk last night damaged a school and civilian infrastructure.

In the Velykomykhailivska community in the Dnipropetrovsk region, the occupiers fired on a school building and a kindergarten.

During the russian invasion of the country, the aggressor damaged 1,584 educational institutions due to bombing and shelling, 118 of which were completely destroyed.

The actions of the russian occupation forces are a direct violation of Ukraine's children's right to life and security, guaranteed by the Hague and Geneva Conventions and the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.

I appeal to the UN Commission for Investigation Human Rights Violations during Russia's military invasion of Ukraine to take into account these facts of Russia's violations of children's rights in Ukraine.

I call on international partners to provide weapons to fight the aggressor country of Russia!
