Commissioner: Russian aggression deprives Ukrainian children of the right to life and health care

As of 10 a.m. on April 25, 2022, according to the Unified Register of Pre-Trial Investigations and other sources that need confirmation, 215 children (+2 per day) have died and 391 children (+2 per day) have been injured since the Russian invasion of Ukraine began.

It is impossiblto establish the actual number of dead and wounded children due to the fact that the occupying forces are actively fighting in Ukrainian cities.

In the town of Rubizhne, two children lived alone under fire for a week.  Michael, 4, and his older brother, Jason, were preparing for themselves and trying to follow the instructions of their mother, who told them not to leave the house at random.  The Ukrainian military rescued the children.

Yesterday, two girls aged 5 and 14, who were hiding from the war in a private house, died as a result of shelling by the russian troops in the village of Krasnohorivka, Pokrovsky District, Donetsk Region.

The occupiers also fired on the Kharkiv region again - an 11-year-old boy was wounded in the city of Chuhuiv as a result of the shelling.

A 13-year-old child was injured in the shelling of the village of Turove, Bohodukhiv district, Kharkiv region.

Such actions by the russian occupation forces are a direct violation of the fundamental rights of children - the right to life and health guaranteed to every child in the world by the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.

I appeal to the UN Commission to Investigate Human Rights Violations during the Russian Military Invasion of Ukraine to take into account these facts of Russia's violations of children's rights in Ukraine.

I call on international partners to provide weapons to fight the aggressor country of Russia!
