Information about the Department for Personal Data Protection

The Department for Personal Data Protection of the Secretariat of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Commissioner for Human Rights (hereinafter - the Department) is an independent structural unit of the Secretariat of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Commissioner for Human Rights (hereinafter - the Secretariat) coordinated by a representative of the Commissioner. (hereinafter - the Commissioner) in accordance with the approved job description.

The department is headed by a director.

The Department consists of the following structural units:

• Department of regulatory and legal support
• Appeals Department
• Inspection department
• Department of interaction with personal data subjects
• Sector for the implementation of international standards in the field of personal data protection

The main tasks of the Department are:

1. Ensuring the implementation of the powers of the Commissioner for Parliamentary Control over the observance of human and civil rights and the requirements of legislation in the field of personal data protection.
2. Providing, within the scope of its authority, consideration of notifications on the processing of personal data, appeals on personal data protection, providing recommendations on the practical application of legislation on personal data protection, as well as clarification of the rights and obligations of relevant subjects.
3. Implementation of regulatory and legal support in the field of personal data protection, organization and participation in the implementation of normative design work, development, legal examination of draft regulations, organization of interaction with government agencies, local governments, public associations, enterprises, institutions and organizations, regardless of their form of ownership and their officials and officials on normative design work.
4. Monitoring the state of human rights
   and a citizen in the field of personal data protection.
5. Ensuring the restoration of violated human rights
   and citizen.
6. Ensuring, within the limits of its authority, Ukraine’s international obligations to implement international legal norms and standards, in particular European Union legislation, in the field of personal data protection.
7. Ensuring the development and implementation of criteria and procedures for assessing the state of personal data protection during processing, as well as mechanisms for certification of personal data protection in order to confirm compliance with current legislation of Ukraine and international legal norms in the field of personal data protection.
8. Ensuring within the authority of educational work in the field of personal data protection.
