Commissioner: The number of child victims of Russian aggression against Ukraine is growing

As of 10 a.m. on April 22, 2022, according to the Unified Register of Pre-trial Investigations, as well as other sources that need confirmation, since the beginning of the Russian invasion in Ukraine, 208 children have died and 386 children have been injured (+10 per day).

It is impossible to establish the actual number of dead and wounded children due to the fact that the occupying forces are actively fighting in Ukrainian cities.

Most affected: in Donetsk region - 120 children, Kyiv - 113 children, Kharkiv - 91 children, Chernihiv - 66 children, Kherson - 44 children, Mykolaiv - 41 children, Luhansk - 37 children, Zaporozhye - 25 children, Sumy - 17 children,  in Kyiv - 16 children, Zhytomyr - 15 children.

As a result of artillery shelling by the occupiers in the Bakhmut district of Donetsk region, a 16-year-old boy was seriously injured.

The racists continue to fire on tanks, “Hails”, artillery and large-caliber machine guns from the Pologi district of the Zaporizhia region.  As a result of one such shelling, a 6-year-old child received a gunshot wound.

The aggressor state violates the fundamental rights of children - the right to life and health, guaranteed to every child in the world by the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.

I appeal to the UN Commission for Investigation Human Rights Violations during Russia's Military Invasion of Ukraine to take into account these violations of children rights in Ukraine by Russia.

I call on international partners to close the skies over Ukraine and provide weapons to fight the aggressor country of russia!
