The Commissioner is concerned about the critical state of health of Ukrainian citizen Hryhoriy Sinchenko, who is being illegally detained in the basement of a pre-trial detention center in temporarily occupied Donetsk

Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights Lyudmila Denisova is concerned about the critical health condition of Ukrainian citizen Hryhoriy Sinchenko, who is being illegally detained in the basement of a pre-trial detention center in temporarily occupied Donetsk.

The ombudsman reminded that a native of Donetsk was a student at the University of Simferopol, where he studied political science. After the temporary occupation of Crimea, he refused to write an application for transfer to a Russian university, for which he was expelled.

In 2016, Hryhoriy came to Donetsk to renew his disability documents because he had a spinal disease since childhood, and on December 2 he was detained by unknown gunmen on charges of working for Ukraine.

According to the Commissioner, Hryhoriy was severely tortured in the Donetsk pre-trial detention center where he was placed: he was handcuffed, beaten unconscious and passed through numerous discharges of electricity. During one of the tortures, he suffered a ruptured lung, which later led to tuberculosis. Gregory was released during a major exchange in December 2017.

However, the young man decided to take revenge for everything he had to go through in captivity and went to Donetsk again. There, in October 2019, he staged an action against torture - he blew up the station of the cellular operator "Phoenix". He posted the video on YouTube, signing: "This is done in order to draw attention to the inhuman torture in the basements of the MGB. The people of Donbass must go on a protest against torture or the fascist republic will be left without communication. "

Hryhoriy was immediately detained by officers of the so-called "Ministry of State Security in the ORDO" and he was taken prisoner for the second time.

At the end of May 2020, the boy managed to escape from the Donetsk pre-trial detention center, but was detained again a month later.

Now, for the third time, Hryhoriy Sinchenko is being held captive by the Russian-controlled occupation administration.

Cruel torture led him to attempt suicide. In utter despair, Hryhoriy wrote the name of the executioner, Stas Koshovy, on the walls of the №5 SIZO cell with his own blood.

"Such actions against Hryhoriy Sinchenko are violations not only of Ukrainian law but also of international law, including the 1949 Geneva Conventions on the Rules of War, the Additional Protocols to the 1977 Geneva Conventions and the 1950 European Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms. year ", - said Lyudmila Denisova.

The Commissioner appealed to the OSCE Coordinator in the Humanitarian Subgroup of the Charlotte Relander Tripartite Contact Group and the ICRC leadership in Ukraine to facilitate the provision of medical care and the release of Hryhoriy Sinchenko.
