Serviceman Yuriy Hordiychuk, who is being held illegally in Makeyevka Correctional Colony No. 32 in the ORDO, has serious health problems. This was announced by the Commissioner for Human Rights of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Lyudmyla Denisova.
The Ombudsman reminded that Yuriy was a senior soldier of the 43rd Motorized Infantry Battalion of the 53rd Separate Mechanized Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, serving in the armed conflict zone in Donetsk and Luhansk regions.
On May 22, 2019, he and seven other servicemen were illegally detained in the Novotroitskoye settlement of the Volnovakha district of the Donetsk region while crossing the Berezovo-2 checkpoint.
Five of them - Alexander Geimur, Kim Duvanov, Boris Pundor, Maxim Goryaev, Viktor Shaida were released as part of the exchange. Roman Bezpaly did not live to see his release. In October 2019, the occupation administration announced that he had allegedly committed suicide under arrest. Pavlo Korsun and Yuriy Hordiychuk remained in illegal captivity.
In June 2019, Yuri was illegally sentenced by the so-called "Supreme Court" in the ORDO to 17 years in prison for alleged "sabotage".
Yuri has a chronic disease: tonsillitis with subsequent swelling of the throat, which causes shortness of breath.
According to the Commissioner, reports from monitoring and human rights organizations show that the occupation administration of the Russian Federation uses physical force, torture and psychological pressure on illegally detained persons in the temporarily occupied territories, threatens physical violence, does not provide proper medical care and keeps them in unsatisfactory conditions.
"Such actions violate not only Ukrainian law but also international law, including the 1949 Geneva Conventions on the Rules of War, the Additional Protocols to the 1977 Geneva Conventions and the 1950 European Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms." - Lyudmila Denisova emphasized.
The Commissioner appealed to the ICRC leadership in Ukraine to urgently visit Yuriy Gordiychuk, facilitate his immediate hospitalization and provide qualified medical care. She also asked the OSCE Coordinator in the Charlotte Contact Group's humanitarian subgroup, Charlotte Relander, to intervene personally to provide appropriate assistance.
