Commissioner: Rashists violate the right to life and health of Ukrainians - kill doctors and destroy medical facilities

In carrying out an aggressive attack on Ukraine, the troops of the Russian Federation are carrying out targeted shelling of medical facilities and medical transport, violating the right to life and health of Ukrainians.

Since the beginning of the war, enemy shelling has killed 10 doctors, damaged about 500 hospitals, destroyed 40 medical facilities and cannot be rebuilt.

International humanitarian law prohibits attacks on medical personnel and facilities during armed conflicts.

The Convention for the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War of 12 August 1949, the Convention for the Amelioration of the Condition of the Wounded and Sick in Armed Forces of 12 August 1949, and the Additional Protocol to the Geneva Conventions of 12 August 1949  I), strict requirements are set for the protection of medical personnel, medical vehicles and medical facilities.

I appeal to the UN Commission for Investigation Human Rights Violations during Russia's military invasion of Ukraine to take into account these facts of Russia's human rights violations in Ukraine.
