European ombudsmen spoke in support of Ukraine

Following the conference of the European Network of Ombudsmen, in which I had the honor to participate on April 27, 2022 in Strasbourg, the Declaration on Ukraine was adopted.

In the document, European colleagues expressed their personal support for me as the Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights and solidarity with Ukrainian victims of Russian aggression.

The ombudsmen of European countries share my deep concern about the fate of Ukrainians, children and adults forcibly deported to Russia, and insist on an independent international investigation to find out about their situation.

The Declaration calls on the Commissioner for Human Rights in Russia T. Moskalkova to play her role in protecting human rights, regardless of their origin and without any discrimination, and to pay special attention to the problem of Ukrainian citizens forcibly deported to Russia.

For their part, fellow ombudsmen will promote European countries' compliance with their international obligations, including the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the Geneva Convention, the International Convention on the Rights of the Child and the European Convention on Human Rights.

Thank you for this Declaration and help!

The support of fellow European ombudsmen is extremely important for me personally and for Ukraine in general, as it is aimed at respecting the fundamental rights of our citizens in Ukraine and the world!

The declaration remains open for signature by other ombudsmen: https://www.ombudsman.europa.eu/en/event-document/en/155625
