The Commissioner calls on the international community to respond immediately to the losses among Ukrainian servicemen and civilians

One Ukrainian serviceman was killed and five others were wounded in the shelling today. There are losses among the civilian population: a resident of the village of Novolugansk, Donetsk region, died. This was announced by the Commissioner for Human Rights of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Lyudmyla Denisova.

The Ombudsman expresses his sincere condolences to the families and friends of the victims, and wishes the wounded a speedy recovery.

"The shelling of the occupier violated the right of Ukrainian citizens to a safe life, guaranteed by part one of Article 2 of the European Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms," said Lyudmila Denisova.

The Commissioner calls on the international community to respond immediately to the losses among Ukrainian servicemen and civilians, and to take appropriate measures to force the aggressor state to stop the escalation of the conflict in eastern Ukraine.
