Commissioner: The enemy kills Ukrainian children and destroys educational institutions

As of 10 a.m. on May 2, 2022, according to the Unified Register of Pre-Trial Investigations, as well as other sources that need confirmation, 219 children have died and 405 (+1 per day) children have been injured since the Russian invasion of Ukraine began.

It is impossible to establish the actual number of dead and wounded children due to the fact that the occupying forces are actively fighting in Ukrainian cities.

Yesterday it became known that a 15-year-old boy was injured as a result of artillery shelling by the occupiers of the village of Vremivka, Velykonovosilkivskyi district, Donetsk region.

A 12-year-old child was injured in the Luhansk region last night.

The enemy systematically continues to destroy Ukraine's civilian infrastructure.  So far, during the russian invasion, the aggressor has damaged 1,570 educational institutions due to bombing and shelling, of which 111 have been completely destroyed.

The actions of the russian occupation forces are a direct violation of Ukraine's children's right to life and security, guaranteed by the Hague and Geneva Conventions and the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.

I appeal to the UN Commission for Investigation Human Rights Violations during Russia's military invasion of Ukraine to take into account these facts of Russia's violations of children's rights in Ukraine.

I call on international partners to provide weapons to fight the aggressor country of Russia!
