I welcome the adoption on 5 May of the European Parliament's resolution "The impact of the war against Ukraine on women"

The European Parliament has confirmed the violation of women's rights caused by Russia's war against Ukraine.

The Resolution emphasizes the use of sexual violence by the russian military as a weapon of war, and the need to use all possible means to meet the needs and protect women who have been sexually abused.

MEPs call on the EU to ensure that all host and transit countries have access to sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) services, including emergency contraception and abortion, as well as obstetric care for victims of sexual violence.

The European Parliament has established that EU countries should promote the integration of refugee women in host countries, in particular women should be given access to the labor market as soon as possible.  To do this, it’s  needed to create special programs and language courses, as well as provide access to child care services.

In addition, EU countries need to quickly identify trafficking networks that profit from the sexual exploitation of refugee women.

I express my gratitude to the governments of all EU member states who are currently helping Ukraine in the fight against the aggressor state of Russia and making efforts to provide all necessary assistance to Ukrainian citizens seeking refuge abroad.

With your support, Ukraine will defend and win!
