Commissioner: Ukrainian political prisoner Oleksandr Marchenko transferred to the penal colony №8 of the Russian city of Ulan-Ude (Buryatia)

Russia continues to violate the rights of illegally convicted citizens of Ukraine.

Ukrainian political prisoner Oleksandr Marchenko, illegally sentenced to 10 years in prison, was transferred to the G8 penal colony in the Russian city of Ulan-Ude (Buryatia). This was announced by the Commissioner for Human Rights of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Lyudmyla Denisova.

According to the Commissioner, during the stage, Alexander again did not receive hormonal drugs for 10 days, which he must take regularly after removal of the thyroid gland. He was sent to solitary confinement due to a request to return the medicines needed to support his life.

Moreover, the transfer of Alexander was carried out in violation of Articles 73 and 75 of the Criminal Executive Code. After all, despite the fact that Alexander is a citizen of Ukraine, he was sent to serve his sentence in a separate area of Russia - Transbaikalia, where frosts reach 40 degrees below zero. The body's adaptation to the new climate is difficult. He has no warm clothes or thermal underwear. Already in the colony, Alexander fell ill with coronavirus, and no medical care is provided to him.

"By their illegal actions the leadership of the penal colony violates the rights of Oleksandr Marchenko to life, health care and medical assistance, which are enshrined in Article 2 of the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms, and paragraph 22 of the Standard Minimum Rules for the Treatment of Prisoners." approved by the UN Economic and Social Council, "the Ombudsman stressed.

Lyudmila Denisova appealed to the Commissioner for Human Rights in the Russian Federation Tatiana Moskalkova with a demand to take urgent measures to restore the rights of citizens of Ukraine, including an immediate full medical examination with further treatment.

The ombudsman calls on the international community to pay attention to the violation of the rights of Ukrainian citizen Oleksandr Marchenko, to continue activities aimed at protecting the rights of all Kremlin prisoners and to increase pressure on the Russian occupying power to stop violations and release them immediately.
