Commissioner: Ukrainian children continue to be victims of Russian aggression

As of 10 a.m. on April 30, 2022, according to the Unified Register of Pre-Trial Investigations, as well as other sources that need confirmation, 219 children have died and 398 children have been injured since the Russian invasion of Ukraine began.

It is impossible to establish the actual number of dead and wounded children due to the fact that the occupying forces are actively fighting in Ukrainian cities.

The most affected were: Donetsk region - 139 children, Kyiv region - 115 children, Kharkiv region - 95 children, Chernihiv region - 68 children, Kherson region - 44 children, Mykolaiv region - 43 children, Luhansk region - 37 children, Luhansk region - 37 children, Zaporizhia region - 27 children, Sumy region - 17 children.  Kyiv city - 16 children, Zhytomyr - 15 children.

Yesterday it became known that a 14-year-old athlete, who was a candidate of the Ukrainian national weightlifting team, died in the russian shelling in the city of Mariupol in the Donetsk region.  Her mother died with Alina.

The enemy systematically continues to destroy Ukraine's civilian infrastructure.  So far, during the russian invasion, the aggressor has damaged 1,570 educational institutions due to bombing and shelling, of which 111 have been completely destroyed.

Such actions by the russian occupation forces are a direct violation of the fundamental rights of children - the right to life and health, guaranteed to every child in the world by the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.

I appeal to the UN Commission for Investigation Human Rights Violations during Russia's military invasion of Ukraine to take into account these facts of Russia's violations of children's rights in Ukraine.

I call on international partners to provide weapons to fight the aggressor country of Russia!
