Commissioner: in temporarily occupied Melitopol mass detainees and put pressure on businessmen

In the temporarily occupied Melitopol of the Zaporozhye region, russian servicemen detain businessmen en masse, and release them only after paying "compensation".

They are searched in offices and homes.

The occupiers are trying to impose "taxes and fees" on entrepreneurs in favor of Russia - cash and goods or products.

By doing so, the Russian army violates the right to property guaranteed by Article 33 of the 1949 Geneva Convention relative to the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War.

I appeal to the UN Commission for Investigation Human Rights Violations during Russia's Military Invasion of Ukraine and the expert mission set up by the OSCE participating States in accordance with the Moscow Mechanism to take into account these human rights violations in Ukraine.
