Commissioner: Lyudmila Huseynova, an extremely courageous woman, has been illegally detained in the Donetsk pre-trial detention center in the ORDO for three years

Lyudmila Huseynova. For the third year in a row, this extremely courageous woman has been illegally detained in the Donetsk pre-trial detention center in the ORDO. This was announced by the Commissioner for Human Rights of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Lyudmyla Denisova.

Lyudmila, a resident of the temporarily occupied Novoazovsk region of Donetsk region, worked as a safety engineer at a local poultry farm.

Since the beginning of hostilities, it has organized an all-Ukrainian movement to protect the rights of children who find themselves in inhumane living conditions virtually on the front lines. For 5 years, until her arrest, she cared for orphans and semi-orphans from the temporarily occupied village of Primorske.

Lyudmila organized regular collection and delivery of humanitarian aid to Primorsky by private transport for orphans and semi-orphans from the Novoazovsk boarding school, which Ukraine did not have time to evacuate. Volunteers, united by Lyudmila Huseynova, created a library of Ukrainian literature in the boarding school, bought a computer, and each child received postcards from Kyiv, Kharkiv, Lviv, and Odessa.

On October 16, 2019, representatives of the occupation administration came to her work, ordered her to gather quickly, took her home, where they conducted a "search" and confiscated all equipment and means of communication - phones, laptops, flash drives. The relatives learned about everything from the words of the director of the poultry farm. For two months they did not know where Lyudmila was.

As it turned out, Lyudmila Huseynova had been detained in the infamous Izolyatsia prison on the premises of a former insulation materials plant in Donetsk. There she was severely tortured. Forty days later, the woman was transferred to a pre-trial detention center in Donetsk and charged with "espionage."

Lyudmila Huseynova is 60 years old. As a result of the occupiers' torture, she developed chronic pancreatitis and hypertension. Recently has been experiencing severe pain in his left arm. She is not receiving any medical care. It feeds only on what its sister passes on

"All the above actions against Lyudmila Huseynova are violations not only of Ukrainian law but also of international law, including the 1949 Geneva Conventions on the Rules of War, the Additional Protocols to the 1977 Geneva Conventions and the European Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms. 1950, "said Lyudmila Denisova.

The Commissioner appealed to the ICRC leadership in Ukraine to urgently visit Lyudmila Huseynova and facilitate her immediate release.

The Ombudsman also asked the OSCE Co-ordinator in the Humanitarian Subgroup of the Tripartite Contact Group, Charlotte Relander, to intervene personally to raise the issue of her release.
