The situation with water supply in the temporarily occupied territories of Luhansk and Donetsk regions is critical

According to information received from partner human rights organizations working in ORDLO, due to the russian military aggression against Ukraine, the process of water supply and the work of public utilities was disrupted in the temporarily occupied territories of Donetsk and Luhansk regions.

As a result, the civilian population has virtually no access to drinking and tap water in most settlements.  Also, due to the lack of water supply in these areas, second and third level medical care is not provided.

The russian military confiscates water supplies from the civilian population and takes it to the war zone.  Water is supplied to some temporarily occupied areas every 30 days.  People are forced to give part of these stocks to the occupiers.

Russia's actions violate the Convention for the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War of 12 August 1949 (Fourth Geneva Convention).  According to which the occupying power is obliged by all available means to provide the civilian population with all necessary resources, including water.

I appeal to the UN Commission for Investigation Human Rights Violations during the Russian Military Invasion of Ukraine to take into account these facts of human rights violations in Ukraine.
