Commissioner: Every day Russia violates the right of Ukrainian children to life and health care

As of 10 a.m. on May 1, 2022, according to the Unified Register of Pre-trial Investigations, as well as other sources that need confirmation, 219 children have died and 404 (+6 per day) children have died since the Russian invasion of Ukraine began.

It is impossible to establish the actual number of dead and wounded children due to the fact that the occupying forces are actively fighting in Ukrainian cities.

Yesterday in the town of Dobropillya in the Donetsk region, three girls aged 5, 6 and 7 were injured as a result of the use of high-explosive cruise missiles by the occupiers.

As a result of the shelling of the village of Velyka Novosilka and the village of Vremivka in the Volnovakha district in the Donetsk region by the russian armed forces, 6 local residents were injured, including a 15-year-old boy.

A 14-year-old wounded man was also taken to the hospital from the town of Siversk, Bakhmut district, Donetsk region.

A 12-year-old girl was wounded by enemy artillery fire in the village of Lyubimivka, Beryslav district, Kherson region.

Such actions by the russian occupation forces are a direct violation of the Hague and Geneva Conventions and the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.

I appeal to the UN Commission for Investigation Human Rights Violations during Russia's military invasion of Ukraine to take into account these facts of Russia's violations of children's rights in Ukraine.

I call on international partners to provide weapons to fight the aggressor country of Russia!
