Commissioner: Russian prosecution has requested 20 years in prison for Ismet Ibrahimov - the longest term in the so-called Hizb ut-Tahrir case for Ukrainian citizens

In the Southern District Military Court of Rostov-on-Don, the russian public prosecutor asks the court to sentence the Crimean Tatar Ismet Ibragimov to 20 years in prison and a fine of 500,000 russian rubles.

The man is illegally charged under Part 1 of Article 30 (preparation for a crime and attempted crime), Article 278 (forcible seizure of power or forcible retention of power) and Part 1 of Article 205.5 (organization of a terrorist organization) of the Criminal Code of russian federation.

This is the longest term in the so-called "Hizb ut-Tahrir case" for the citizens of Ukraine.

The prosecutor insists that out of 20 years in prison, Ibragimov should spend the first three years in prison, the rest of his sentence in a maximum security colony, and after his release he will face two years of limitation of freedom.

The main evidence of the prosecution is the testimony of so-called "secret witnesses", whose testimonies are contradictory, as the lawyer has repeatedly emphasized.

Ismet Ibragimov and his lawyer will speak at the debate on June 2.  On the same day, the accused will have his last word.

If Ismet is imprisoned, his three minor children will be left without a breadwinner.

By prosecuting Crimean Tatars and other illegally detained Ukrainians, the occupying country violates Article 64 of the Geneva Convention relative to the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War, which effectively prohibits russia from extending its legislation to the occupied peninsula.

Such actions also violate Article 6 of the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms and Article 11 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

I appeal to the UN Commission for Investigation Human Rights Violations during the Russian Military Invasion of Ukraine to take into account these facts of human rights violations in Ukraine.
