The Commissioner met with members of the Georgian Parliament

Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights Lyudmila Denisova met with Georgian MPs Levan Bezhashvili and Tamar Kordzai, who are currently working on setting up a temporary commission in the Georgian Parliament to investigate the degrading treatment and inhuman treatment of Georgia's third President Mikheil Saak.

Given that Mikheil Saakashvili is a citizen of Ukraine and Chairman of the Executive Committee of the National Reform Council under the President of Ukraine, they discussed joint plans and cooperation to respect his rights during his stay in Rustav Prison.

The Сommissioner expressed concern over the deteriorating health of Mikhail, as evidenced by a council of doctors set up under the People's Defender of Georgia Nino Lomdzhariya.

Lyudmila Denisova informed Georgian parliamentarians that she had asked the Georgian Minister of Justice to take measures to ensure qualified psychological and physical rehabilitation of Mikheil Saakashvili, a citizen of Ukraine, and provided supporting documents on his current health.

The Сommissioner said she planned to visit Mikheil Saakashvili at a Rustavi penitentiary during his visit next month. The Ombudsman requested permission from the Minister of Justice of Georgia.
