Commissioner: Forced deportation of Ukrainian women and infants to Russia violates their basic rights to life and health

Russia is committing illegal actions against women in the temporarily occupied territory of Donetsk region. The Commissioner for Human Rights of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine learned about this from partner human rights organizations that monitor the situation in the ORDLO.

On the second day after childbirth, women and infants are discharged from maternity hospitals for further forced evacuation to the Russian Federation.

Illegally deported women with children are forced to stay without food and sleep in unheated buses and temporary tents for several days without proper conditions: water, food, baby formula, hygiene products, appropriate seasonal clothing.

"Such actions of the Russian Federation threaten the lives and health of women and newborns, violate their right to life, liberty and security of person, guaranteed by Article 3 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights," said Lyudmila Denisova.

The Commissioner appeals to the world community to respond to the facts of illegal deportation of Ukrainian citizens to the territory of the Russian Federation - women with newborns, which violates fundamental rights - to life and health.
