Commissioner: occupiers forcibly deported Mariupol residents to the Far East

Russia sent forcibly deported citizens of Ukraine from Mariupol to the Primorsky Krai - 8,000 kilometers from the homeland.

Volunteers from Russia told me that on April 21, a train arrived in the city of Nakhodka with 308 Ukrainians from Mariupol - mothers with young children, people with disabilities, students.

Upon the train's arrival, a performance was made for the russian media - a meeting with sailors in parade uniform, rescuers and representatives of the local administration.

After verification, Mariupol residents were sent by bus to a temporary accommodation in Wrangel.

The deportees are expected to prepare new documents to replace Ukrainian ones and look for work.  The occupiers of the Russian Federation promise to pay in the future "lifting" 10 thousand rubles.

The occupying country of Russia grossly violates the provisions of Article 49 of the Geneva Convention relative to the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War, which prohibits the forced relocation or deportation of persons from the occupied territories.

I appeal to the UN Commission for Investigation Human Rights Violations during the Russian Military Invasion of Ukraine to take into account these facts of crimes and human rights violations in Ukraine.
