Commissioner: Shooting and robbery of a journalist is a gross violation of international conventions and declarations that establish security guarantees for media workers

Rashist soldiers fired on a car and robbed a foreign journalist.

Guillaume Briquet, a Swiss citizen and independent journalist, covered the aggressor's military operations in the Mykolaiv region.  On March 6 during movement towards Nikolaev his armored car with marking "press" was fired at by the Russian military.  The journalist was injured.

After stopping the car,  russian invaders confiscated his documents, money, photographic, video equipment, laptop and other valuables.

The wounded journalist was able to reach the Ukrainian police checkpoint, from where he was taken to a medical facility and treated.

The shooting and robbery of a journalist is a gross violation of the Hague Conventions and Declaration, the Geneva Convention for the Protection of Victims of War and its Additional Protocols, and the Convention on the Laws and Customs of Land Warfare, which provide security guarantees for journalists.

I call on international human rights organizations to take all possible measures to increase pressure on the Russian Federation to end military aggression against Ukraine and to stop mass human rights violations.
