Commissioner: almost 90 years of imprisonment for five citizens of Ukraine!

In the Southern District Military Court of Rostov-on-Don, the Russian public prosecutor at the final stage of the trial asks the court to imprison members of the so-called "second Simferopol group" from 16 to 18.5 years in a criminal case under Article 205.5 (organization of a terrorist organization ) and 278 of the Criminal Code (preparation for the seizure of power). This was announced by the Commissioner for Human Rights of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Lyudmyla Denisova.

According to her, the Russian prosecutor's office in a fabricated case demands to sentence Ukrainian citizens to long terms in a maximum security prison: journalist Remzi Bekirov - 18 years, human rights activist Riza Izetov - 18.5 years, activists Shaban Umerov - 18.5 years, Raim Aivazov - 18 years and 3 months, Farkhod Bazarov - 16 years.

The Russian prosecutor also called for one to one and a half years in prison after his release. Ukrainian political prisoners have pleaded not guilty.

The main evidence of the prosecution is the testimony of so-called "secret witnesses", whose identities are known only to the FSB officers who investigated the crime, and judges who are considering a criminal case. In case of an illegal court decision, 12 minor children of Crimean Tatars will be left without breadwinners, "the Ombudsman said.

On January 18 and 19, lawyers with the consent and defendants will have the last word to debate in court. The final decision on the five Crimean Tatars will be made in late January 2022.

"Trials of Crimean Tatars and other illegally detained Ukrainians, the occupying country violates international law, the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights," said Lyudmila Denisova.

The Commissioner calls on the international community to continue sanctions and political pressure on the aggressor country to release all those illegally detained by the Russian Federation in the temporarily occupied territories of Crimea, Donetsk and Luhansk regions.
