Commissioner: cruise missiles over Khmelnitsky NPP - an act of nuclear terrorism by Russia

Another act of nuclear terrorism of the Russian Federation - on the morning of April 25, 2022, two russian cruise missiles were recorded over the cooling reservoir of the Khmelnitsky NPP.

This next act of nuclear terrorism by Russia could be an environmental disaster for both Ukraine and Europe.

Currently, there are no violations of the conditions of safe operation of Khmelnitsky NPP power units.  Radiation, fire and environmental conditions are within normal limits.  The territory of Khmelnitsky NPP is under enhanced protection.

By its actions in Ukraine, the Russian Federation grossly violates the requirements of Article 56 of the 1977 Additional Protocol to the Geneva Conventions and other acts regulating international obligations in the nuclear field.

I call on international partners and the IAEA to immediately take all possible measures to end the Russian Federation's hostilities over Ukrainian nuclear power plants and to stop nuclear terrorism in Ukraine.

I appeal to the UN Commission for Investigation Human Rights Violations during the Russian Military Invasion of Ukraine to take into account these facts of crimes and human rights violations in Ukraine.
