Commissioner: citizen of Ukraine, father of eight children Anatoliy Arkhipov is illegally detained in Makeyevka Correctional Colony № 32 in ORDO

Anatoliy Arkhipov, a citizen of Ukraine and the father of eight children, is being illegally detained in the Makeyevka Correctional Colony № 32 in the ORDO. This was announced by the Commissioner for Human Rights of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Lyudmyla Denisova.

Anatoliy is a resident of Krasnohorivka, Mariinsky District, Donetsk Region. He worked as an ambulance driver.

The man was detained on October 16, 2017, when he was returning from temporarily occupied Donetsk from his son. Representatives of the occupation administration of the so-called "DPR" threw explosives into Anatoly's car during a checkpoint at the Oleksandrivka checkpoint.

Anatoliy spent three years in a pre-trial detention center in Donetsk. In 2020, the so-called "Supreme Court of the DPR" sentenced him to 16 years in prison for alleged "espionage, illegal possession, smuggling of weapons and preparation of a terrorist act."

Anatoly has problems with his heart and stomach. He suffered a microstroke in illegal detention. Due to high blood pressure, he suffers from constant headaches, his eyesight has significantly deteriorated. No medical care is provided to Anatoly in the penal colony.

"All the above actions against Anatoly Arkhipov are violations not only of Ukrainian law but also of international law, including the Geneva Conventions of 1949 on the Rules of War, the Additional Protocols to the Geneva Conventions of 1977 and the European Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms. 1950, "said Lyudmila Denisova.

The Commissioner urges the ICRC leadership in Ukraine to pay an urgent visit to Anatoliy Arkhipov, facilitate his immediate release, and ask the OSCE Coordinator in the Humanitarian Subgroup of the Tripartite Contact Group, Charlotte Relander, to intervene personally to raise the issue of his release.
