Commissioner: The actions of the Russian occupation forces are a direct violation of the right of Ukrainian children to life and security

As of 10 a.m. on May 13, 2022, according to the Unified Register of Pre-Trial Investigations and other sources that need confirmation, 226 children have died and 420 children have been injured (+3 per day) since the Russian Federation invaded Ukraine.

It is impossible to establish the actual number of dead and wounded children due to the fact that the occupying forces are actively fighting in Ukrainian cities.

Yesterday, the occupiers fired at a column of civilian cars leaving the occupied territory of the Kherson region from the “Hail” volley fire system near the village of Karierne, Beryslav district, Kherson region.  A 10-year-old child was injured in one of the cars.

A 9-year-old boy was also injured in the shelling of the same district in the Kherson region.

It became known that as a result of shelling of the city of Mariupol of Donetsk region the 17-year-old girl was wounded.

An 11-year-old boy died at a hospital in Dnipro. He was recently injured in Zolotye, Luhansk region, and was in critical condition.

In Bucha, russians planted an explosive in a girl's piano.  The girl's mother noticed that the awards were not the same as before, and forbade the girl to touch a musical instrument, after which it turned out that the piano had an explosive.

The actions of the russian occupation forces are a direct violation of Ukraine's children's right to life and security, guaranteed by the Hague and Geneva Conventions and the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.

I appeal to the UN Commission for Investigation Human Rights Violations during Russia's military invasion of Ukraine to take into account these facts of Russia's violations of children's rights in Ukraine.

I call on international partners to provide weapons to fight the aggressor country of Russia!
