Discrimination, including on the grounds of sexual orientation, is unacceptable

A case of ill-treatment and humiliation of two members of the LGBTI community during their return home through a city checkpoint was revealed in Odesa.

According to media reports, people in uniform took the men to the basement, put on bulletproof vests and helmets, and forced them to perform various physical exercises for two hours, inflicting bodily injuries.

Appealed to the Office of the Prosecutor General and the Odessa Regional Military Administration to verify this information immediately, taking into account the probable motive of intolerance on the grounds of sexual orientation in the offense and to take appropriate measures.

I emphasize the inadmissibility of discrimination on the grounds of sexual orientation and strict compliance with Article 24 of the Basic Law, Article 14 of the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms and Protocol No. 12 to this Convention.

Issues of respect for the rights of the LGBTI community are under my constant control.

Acts that discredit Ukrainian defenders are unacceptable in wartime or in peacetime.
