Due to russian enemy shelling, residents of the temporarily occupied districts of Donetsk and Luhansk regions without water supply

The occupiers damaged the 3rd rise of the Seversky Donets-Donbas canal with artillery.  Horlivka, Donetsk, Khartsyzsk and many other settlements lost their water supply.

As a result of enemy shelling, the pumping station of the 1st rise of the South Donbas water supply system has been de-energized for a long time.  The occupying authorities do not allow repair crews to restore water supply in the region.

In the Luhansk region, a russian projectile hit a transformer substation that supplies pumping stations that supply water to the central districts of Lysychansk, as well as to the cities of Novodruzhesk and Privilege.  Currently, this facility is without electricity, so there is no centralized water supply in the cities.

By shelling out strategic livelihoods, the occupying country violates the right of Ukrainian citizens to access to drinking water, as enshrined in a UN General Assembly resolution and a UN Human Rights Council resolution (A / HRC / 15 / L).

Russia's actions violate the Convention for the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War of 12 August 1949 (Fourth Geneva Convention).  According to it, the occupying state is obliged to use all available means to provide the civilian population with all necessary resources, including water.

I appeal to the UN Commission for Investigation Human Rights Violations during Russia's military invasion of Ukraine to take into account these facts of Russia's human rights violations in Ukraine.
